Angelica Page Replaces Cybill Shepherd for Remainder of The Best Man Run

Angelica Page, who currently plays Catherine in the Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, will assume the role of Alice Russell in the classic political drama. Page succeeds Cybill Shepherd, who began performances July 10 in the classic political drama. Shepherd withdrew from the production due to the illness of her mother. Page will perform the role through September 9, when The Best Man concludes its limited engagement at the Schoenfeld Theatre. 

"My time on Broadway in The Best Man has been a once in a lifetime experience that I am devastated to have to cut short," Shepherd said in a statement. "Also once in a lifetime, is my opportunity to be with my mother at this time in her life. I am sad to leave the production, but grateful to be my mother’s daughter a little while longer."

In addition to Page, the drama currently stars John Larroquette, John Stamos, Kristin Davis, Elizabeth Ashley, Mark Blum and James Earl Jones, who earned a Tony nomination for his performance. Set at the National Convention, The Best Man follows two candidates who are vying for their party’s presidential nomination during the primary season. Both candidates struggle with the decision to smear their respective opponent’s reputation or take the high road in order to win the race.

In addition to The Best Man, Page has appeared on Broadway in Anna Christie and Side Man. Her film and TV credits include Nobody’s Fool, Lucky Days and The Sixth Sense. Her off-Broadway solo show Turning Page, in which Page will channel her mother, legendary actress Geraldine Page, opens October 11 at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre.
